Importance of Somnath Jyotirlinga
The Somnath temple is the first out of the 12 Jyotirlinga that we have in India. This temple with a rich and profound history was first constructed by Chandra Deva in order to Worship Lord Shiva hoping to get rid of his curse. He was cursed by Prajapati Daksha to lose his spark because Chandra who was married to 27 daughters of Daksha would only love Rohini creating partiality amongst the other daughters. As a response, Chandra was cursed by Daksha. Eventually, Lord Shiva appeased by the worship of Chandra, reduced his curse. From then on Chandra has full spark on the Poornima, then he continues to lose spark until there is none left on Amavasya.

There would not be much rush as the Somnath light and sound show is organised in an amphi-theatre. The ground has a capacity of around 900 – 1000 people. The Somnath light and sound show starts at 8 pm every day. Reaching there an hour before would be more than sufficient. Once you reach the temple premises you can witness the bhavya aarti of the Somnath jyotirlinga and there after proceed to the light and sound show.

The cost of the ticket per person is a bare minimum of Rs 30. There is no advance booking available or necessary for the light and sound show at Somnath temple. The tickets will available in the temple premises soon after the aarti is concluded. You can really enjoy the story narration with the natural wave sound of ocean water in the background
Rules for the Somnath light and sound show
All the security controls required for temple entry also persist for the light and sound show :- leather belt, wallet for gents, mobile, camera, I-pad, ladies bag, eatables and shoes are NOT permitted inside even for Light & sound show as it is for the temple complex. All these items can be stored outside in free lockers available.
